Is it possible to get rid of vertical banding?

This was printed vertically on Y-axis - but I see this vertical banding on everything i print - just pronounced more on this lithophane printed at 45mm/s

Alright, just ordered from amazon... luckily .9 degree NEMA 17 is in stock here in Austin so same-day delivery. I'll report back this evening

If you have a duet Wifi the interpolation will only work for x16 microstepping.
If you have a duet Maestro, interpolation will work from any microstepping.
Either way, it's probably best to use x16 with interpolation.Those ridges can also be caused by poor meshing of belt teeth and toothed idlers, or belt teeth running on smooth idlers. Or the edge of the belt rubbing on idler flanges.

I did install .9 degree steppers and immediately my bands went from < 1mm apart to about 2mm apart - which seemed to jive up with my generic cheap gt2 belts.
Remembering I got awesome prints from pathio.xyz before it died, I figured I'd better confirm my settings with another slicer, so I loaded up Slicer3, set my nozzle size, bed size and setup my start and end gcode and printed a new cube...
no vertical banding!
I still have z-wobble i'm contending with - i have flexible spider shafts coming in tomorrow to replace my solid couplers to see if i can get that wobble out.
Curious if cura is overwriting some of my config.g setup that slic3r is leaving alone or maybe the tool path in slic3r is better? Also, when i printed with slic3r it printed quieter than cura does... so weird.
the only thing cura seems to do better is the top later - it looks like slic3r slightly over extrudes - i also noticed more curved edges vs cura - so i'll check out and maybe experiment with jerk/accel in my firmware gcode (its grayed out in slic3r) and see if i can get the edge slightly sharper and i'd be curious if that invites the vertical banding back or not.

The bigger pattern looks like something binding or loose on the XY axes as on my HEVO.

I put spider couplers on my Z and i'm running another cube right now to see if i can get rid of the z wobble - i also spent a good while measuring and re-measuring everything i could on z to get rid of those lumps.
Once i get my z stable and i know its not wavy, i'm going to compare a print from cura and slic3r
curious, does anyone use Prusa Slic3r on non prussa hardware? worth a shot?

Yes, using Prusa Slicer with hypercube evo and loving it. Well maintained and easy to use.
(comparing to Simplify3D, Cura 4.x, and Slic3r which I used in the past).
As for the topic here, try to rotate the model by 45 deg, do you still see the 2mm pitch vertical lines? In 45 degrees movement only one motor works and this eliminates the interaction between the two belts.

no vertical banding!I'm going to guess that you have Cura configured to use much higher acceleration and jerk values.
Also check the cura start gcode as it may be inserting some incompatible speed limits. Also check that it's set to use reprap gcode flavor.
To really see what's going on between cura and prusa slicer you would need to save a .3mf file from each of them and share them here. That would allow us to see the entire model, sliced gcode, and all the setting used for each slicer.
