after using a chimera clone (dual fixed nozzles) for a while, i have designed a pivoting mechanism for two CR-10 style hotends. the toolchange is activated by a remote servo using a bowden cable (bicycle brake cable). this allows the effector to remain compact and light.
printing with two colors or PLA+ PVA support is working nicely.
but - this will probably not fit on a smart effector... and bed probing is done with a detachable switch.

RE: Best dual extrusion setup in your opinion?
another option is a nozzle lifting mechanism -
this is something that i have been working on, to address similar issues with dual nozzles on a delta printer (can probably be mounted on most printer carriages with some modifications or adapter) -https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3335003
-the unused nozzle doesn't ooze or scrape the print
-no waiting for temperature changes
-no prime tower needed (with correct settings, not consistent yet)
relatively light and compactso far i have it working nicely for dual colors and support materials
