Input Shaping limitations with CAN-BUS

Hello,
After looking over the Duet3D Input Shaping page and browsing the forums I was not able to find a clear explanation for the limitations of using CAN-bus 3HC with input shaping.
I had initial missed the statement that input shaping would only be applied to main boards and not CAN-connected expansion boards. However; I had noticeable results from a CAN-connected 3HC and quite satisfactory when combined with PA.
Can I get a better description of the limitations of using a 3HC, and/or 1HC with Input Shaping? Did I miss an update that addressed this?
Current use case:
- 1x 6HC
-z motors - 2x 3HC (CAN-connected)
-X motor
-U motor
-2x Y motor
Potential use case:
- 1x 6HC
- 4x 1HC
