Duet 3 Mainboard 6HC and 1LC ToolBoard
-
I have a CoreXY running 4 steppers for Z. Looking at the 6HC which only has 6 drivers. I assume it would be possible to run the 1LC ToolBoard for the extruder thus freeing up a driver for the 4 Z stepper.
Just want to make sure before I pull the trigger.
Thanks

Sure, but wouldn't 4 motors for Z be over constrained?

alternative the mini5 with the +2 expansion. but the is not yet available for purchase

Thanks for the info.

Hush now you might get accused of talking sense...

Couple comments about the Tool Board I learned:
-
It only supports 12V fans. While you can feed 24V in and support a 24V hot end, it will only handle 12V fans without modification. I ended up running a wire to the 24V in to support the Hot end fan and it works really well. I replaced my 24V part cooling fan with a 12V version just to make it easer to hook up. I am actually considering getting a 12V fan for the hot end just to get away from the mod I had to make.

The Tool board does not support Auto tuning the hot end yet. This is really a pain. I ended up running both the temp sensor and the Heater to the main board and running the auto tune then copying the results; then hoping the numbers would at least be close on the tool board.
In the end I ran into Extruder issues so I removed the tool board and ran everything to the main board. I still have extruder issues now, so once I get over that I probable will go back to the tool board.

If you're not in a hurry the next revision of the toolboard has better support for running the fan output at Vin(24v of you're so inclined).
Don't think I've seen a timeframe for that, on the other side the fan selection of much better at 12v, i purchased 24v hemera and a dedicated 4 wire fan for 12v with future toolboard in mind.
