Duet3D Ethernet _ Short
-
Hi all,
Electronics are not my speciality, but I think my board may be beyond economic repair!!
I managed to short circuit the board on my CNC machine today - this happened in mid-carve somehow. Now all I have is 3 red LED lights & 1 blue LED showing on the board. The Fans don't run & the Ethernet port has no LED lights working - I'm assuming that the board is fried & will need replacing, but I would like to check before I buy another one? Thanks in advance for any info. -
Three red leds is not very specific, ref https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Hardware_Overview#Section_LED_indications
Also see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/What_to_do_if_your_Duet_won't_respond for basic dead board troubleshooting, but the lack of a green led isn't promising no.

As I said - Electronics not my speciality... but thanks for the info. that's helpful
The Red LEDs are:
5v / E1 Heat & BED HeatThe Blue is the VIN

We can say for sure the 3.3v regulator then has some problems, its labeled U2 and three legs + a tab, but it can fail without visual damage.
Having E1 and Bed on could mean more trouble, but really need to fix the 3.3v problem to diagnose it.
As far as economical repairs go, parts still cost money, but https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/13875/community-repairs might help with the rest, but it would be beneficial to have a rough idea of what is broken. Maybe some pictures could help diagnose.

@bearer
Hope this helps. There's no visible signs of burning anywhere
-
The what to do guide says to remove the SD card, but you can also try removing the Ethernet module to see if that makes any difference to getting a green light (release the stand offs and pull straight up). Its a long shot, but

More often its just a hole in one of the chips, or a bulge. The boards have fuses and features to prevent scorching of boards and wires.
But couldn't really see anything, a would need a cleaning and more resolution to be sure. But try removing the sd card and ethernet module, and see if you get a green light when powere from just usb.

@bearer no that has made no difference, just the 5v led & the usb led are lit. Looks like a replacement to me

replacing is the way to go if time is of the essence; it could probably be repaired but can't with certainty say what the part would set you back nor how long it'd take depending on where you are etc. your call.

@bearer thanks for taking the time to try & help me. Much appreciated
