Converting Creality cr-10 s5 to Duet WiFI 24V
-
Hello wise people, I am left with my Creality CR10 S5 and I wanted to know how difficult would it be to get the duet wifi and a 24V power Supply and 24V steppers and modify the CR1 S5 to a duet motherboard. I was thinking Moons Steppers. Or maybe jsut wait and get the E3D toolchanger rather than going trough the gauntlet of figuring all these things out, time is limited these days.
Has anyone attempted this mod on a Creality? I am open to other suggestions if you think there are better avenues to take?

@roaminginterests For 24v all you need is a 24v heater for the hotend & bed(if DC) and 24v fans. The motors will not need to be rated for 24v, since the drivers control via current. You will need to know the steps/mm, the acceleration and jerk values.

I've modded a CR-10s to 24v and Duet Wifi and Moon 0.9 stepping motors.
There are a few things you need to think about.
Is the heat bed going to be 24V or mains? If 24V look at the current
requirements, you may need to move it off the Duet onto an SSR.Choose a 24V supply to suit the current required. Consider using a supply that has remote on/off so the Duet can shut it down for safety. If budget is not a problem look at Meanwell power supplies they have up to 25A 24V fanless and remote on/off. First 24V supply I got was crazy loud, changed to Meanwell fanless, silent and just warm to the touch after hours of printing.
Are you going to upgrade the Steppers? Prefer low inductance where possible. Moons MS17HA2P4200 are noisy as hell on fast movements at 12V but work great at 24V
Stick with the 12V fans, they are easier to source than 24V, and use a step down 12V supply for fan power on the Duet.

Thank you for your reply. I would get a meanwell power supply, no point on getting the duet board and keeping the 12v supply, or maybe I could get a 12V meanwell. But I feel with 24v it would heat up the bed faster. And yes the bed heating is for 12V, I would need to upgrade that part as well. I was also checking the prices on the E3D tool changer and I was thinking maybe I should just wait and get that, because it has a lot of posibilities, and just keep the cr-10 s5 as it is, maybe get parts in time for it. Because I did have a plan to get the prusa anyway. But now with e3D being so close to being released, then I could get that and have no headaches, jut getting the tooling in time. What do you think?
Now thinking about the E3D and I also checked the prices on it, by the tiem I get a prusa, and th eupgrades to the cr10 s5, I just get a bad ass E3D tool changer, Is like geting a creality which needs a ton of upgrades or prusa and the MMU upgrade and some other upgrades to it. Well not quite, but it seems that the tool changer will be a lot of printer, and it has the duet board in it already.
I do not really understand this part:

Thanks for that piece of wisdom.

you could try limiting the duty cycle of the bed and use it as is - the downside is that in the event of a problem with the firmware the run away temperature would be unnecessarily high, but you can mitigate that by having a thermal cutoff which is a good idea anyway.

Hi! How are you? Did u installed the duet wifi on your CR10S5? I already did it on my S5, but now im looking for someone that can share their RepRap config file (CR10S5) to import on my machine and have a good base yo start tweking my printer. Can you share yours? Thanks in advance!
