MakerGear M2 z issue/board Z drive?
-
Hi,
After a decade my M2 showed the known fault, a weak z drive stepper (direct threaded).
I checked a few connections, all seemed fine, and ordered the MakerGear z stepper w in built screw thread from USA.
Swapped out the Z stepper... And exactly the same problem so can't print.
I need to double check the wiring proper, but if not that, then how do I check my duet board for drive failure, or, can I assign the Z to the Z/ B driver (or another axis drive) ?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks Rich
-
@FuseDeep the Z/B connect is ran off the same driver as Z/A.
Nothing stopping you assigning Z to the E1 driver if its not in use -
@jay_s_uk thanks. Am running an extruder and 3 axis currently.
That would be great if there are 2 extruder outputs. Will have a look.

To change Z axis drive to E1/4 is this the correct change (it has been some months since I touched any of this stuff); Do i need to do anything else, other than move stepper plug to correct output on board?

@FuseDeep thats correct.
Also add an M569 line for P4 so you can match the settings for P2.
Then just move the connection -
M569 P2 S0 ; physical drive 2 goes forwards
replace w
M569 P4 S0 ; physical drive 2 goes forwards
-
@FuseDeep yep
-
@jay_s_uk thanks
-
@jay_s_uk Please remind me how to save a config. g file, I had a specific piece of software but can't find it now!
And yes, I was awoken 0400 this morning by the wind and rain...
-
@FuseDeep are you not editing it though DWC?
otherwise notepad or something like that -
@jay_s_uk Thanks, I have notepad but can't find the G option in the drop down, is there a nack to it?
-
@FuseDeep you can right click and open with.
i use notepad++ and this UDL https://github.com/ComedianTF2/RepRapFirmware-UDL-For-Notepad -
@jay_s_uk yes, no problem opening it. but when wanting to save as a congig.g file I can't see the G extension option in the save as....can't remeber what I did last time?
-
@FuseDeep just save? no need to save as
-
Hmmm
Have saved and checked the new config file and still have a weak as a kitten Z axis.
Please note, the set up worked perfectly for many months then suddenly became weak.
I replaced the entire Z stepper direct from makergear (the old z steppers were known to fail after a decade) and have checked continuity on all 4 stepper cables, all good.
This is now a new z stepper and re assigned as above, but with exact same weakness issue!!!!!!
What is the max current I can set for the duet wifi board for a stepper drive channel, maybe the z set up is stiffer and needs more power (only thing that makes sense)?
Cheers Richard

I canged the z/E1 output MA from 800 to 1600 and it is much happier (0nly cost me 100gbp to not fix this!).
Seems it needed more current. will relube and see how she runs!
