How do I calculate powering max accel and velo for steppers?

I have some new XY steppers that are much more powerful, they can sustain higher acceleration rates without skipping steps, however their top speed is lower. I get frequent ~~wire disconnected on drive A/B errors when I try to move fast. These were speeds that the weaker steppers were able to achieve, but had absolutely no torque, so a little bump would move them off track.
I'd like to get the most out of these steppers, do you have any guidelines for how to figure out the right balance of amps to feed via M906 to get the most out of the motors?

@tecno so, what do I do with the results? Am I to aim for a scenario where the back-pressure-voltage isn't higher than the input voltage? or the back-pressure-voltage is some fraction of the input voltage?
And, it looks like I have to lower the current waaay dooown to get the speed i'm looking for, but I'm guessing it won't be able to do it with lower power. Is there another calculator that tells you your holding torque?
