24V fan not working
-
Hello,
I recently converted my printer from a 12 volt power supply to a 24 volt power supply. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT my part cooling fan. I replaced the old 12 volt one with a 24 volt fan. When I use the slider in web control, the fan does nothing. I have checked my wiring, and there's no problem there. Really not sure why it isn't working. I'm running a Duet 2 Wifi on firmware version 2.03. My config file is attached for reference. Feel free to add any other suggestions. Thanks!

@super_sonic_7036 Have you tested the fan by connecting it directly to a power supply?

Just throwing this out - the Duet2 has options to set the fan voltage on the board. Choose between VIN, 5V or external supply. This setting applies to all fan voltages so if the other fans were replaced with 24V versions and they work ok, this is not the issue.
Besides the fan itself being possibly defective as eluded to by mrehorstdmd, the quickest way to bugger things up (sadly, i have done this twice now) is to plug the fan in backwards. The result of that can be either no damage or more likely a blown output FET. You can also kill the fan itself in the process.
I would suggest hooking a currently working fan to the currently not working output and confirm that this known good fan works on the unknown fan output connector. If it doesn't then chances are the fet is blown (you might see a small dimple or small crater on the fet that connects to that output)
Good luck!PS.: Turn off power before plugging or unplugging anything - I know it's a pain and it's only a fan output but it's a lot less hassle than repairing the board!

@mrehorstdmd I have not been able to hook the fan up to a power supply. I am starting to suspect that my fans are faulty. I got them in a pack of 4 from Amazon, so I will definitely try to hook it up to a power supply to see if they work. (When I get the time of course)

@jens55 My other 24v fan that I tried was working fine. I’m pretty sure that the blower fans I bought might be faulty. I’ll try plugging it in place of the working fan as soon as I get the time. Thanks for the advice!

UPDATE: The fan that I installed was bad. Problem solved! Watch out for what you buy on Amazon!
