How do you solve filament runout?
-
Hi All... I know this question sounds easy to answer, but I do have a filament runout sensor on my Ender 5 Plus but the problem I constantly run into is the end of the filament is hooked and gets caught in my sensor and does not feed through. So even though my filament has run out, the printer does not believe it has because it's stuck.
This has happened half a dozen times now and while I love the filament, I need a solution which I can be confident this won't happen... any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks!

@infidelprops Before I load a spool, I get inside the spool center hole and cut off that little hook with a sharp knife.
It's difficult, but seems to work for me.
Except when I forget which is only on important prints.

Replace with a smart filament sensor (Duet3D, BTT, or a self built one) that detects filament movement. Gives you jam detection and will detect this case too.

Once I replaced my extruder with something with more umph those end bits never bothered me again. They just get pulled through.
Mind you the end bit in your picture looks more than just a slight kink which is all I ever encountered. -

Well that sounds stupidly obvious and not sure why I didn't think of that... thanks mate, that is indeed and easy fix and I will look into it!
