SSR for Spindle on/off on a Duet2 WiFi
-
Hi All,
Over the last few months I've been setting up a Duet 2 for a OX cnc machine, I'm using a 500 watt analogue spindle, which is controlled by a potentiometer for speed and a switch for on/off . Today I've been trying to wire in a SSR to control spindle stop/start, the input for the relay has 3 terminals "DC+" "GRND" and "Signal", I've connected these to the duet as follows, DC+ to FAN0 (vfan) - GRND to GND on a always on fan header - SIGNAL to FAN0 (fan0), then in config.g I entered the line "M106 P20 I-1" and updated the M453 line to "M453 S0 P20 R1000 T0" I just intend to use the command M3 S1000 to switch the spindle on, after rebooting entering the command M3 S1000 got me nothing, so I went back into config.g and altered the M106 line to "M106 P0 I-1", and tried to reboot again, this time it connected to the Duet then dropped the connection with a warning box that said, "Connection interrupted, attempting to reconnect, cannot set property 'spindle' of undefined". After this it just keep trying to reconnect but with no luck, I've shut down and restarted but it just does the same, will I have to get back in through a terminal program ?, and could anybody please tell me if the connections I made are sound and if the lines I Entered in config.g are anything like they should be, many thanks in advance.

Three terminal SSR? Picture time methinks (or at least post make and model / datasheet)

Hi Bearer thanks for your interest,
Hope this is ok and helps.

Wiring Port Description:
DC +: positive power supply (3-32VDC)
DC-: negative
CH1: trigger terminal (3-32VDC high level trigger active)
Hm, the "signal" or CH1 needs a high (positive) signal; the Fan0- is a low level signal.
Options
- add a pull up resistor and invert the fan output.
- use a 3.3v (signal) pin straight from the Duex expansion header as this will be active high and not need any pull up or inverting.(edit: i would opt for the last option, and quite possible throw in a pull down for good measure to ensure the spindle doesn't start unintentionally)

Many thanks for that Bearer, I'll switch to option 2.
Do you have any idea how I can get back into the duet now, the commands I've entered into the config.g have definitely upset it, it just keeps rolling over now " Trying to reconnect" -
@Dek-B-UK said in SSR for Spindle on/off on a Duet2 WiFi:
how I can get back into the duet

if repeating the first few steps of https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/1.)+Getting+Connected+to+your+Duet/7 doesn't help

@bearer
Would just like to say thanks to Bearer for his help, I ended up using the CS5 pin on the extension header, and switching it with M42.Thanks Derek
