new Duet2 - can't connect
-
i have a new duet2 board + duex. Trying to set it up, but the problems are many.
- I installed the board onto the printer
- I plugged in the board to my Windows 10 PC, usb power only (24v printer power off)
- I get no connection: Win10 can't detect the Duet at all, but the duet powers up and has three lights, including brief DIAG lightup. (No "connection sound or change to the device manager, no ports visible in device manager). BL touch (which is plugged into the duet) turns on and cycles by clicking the probe.
- I unplug the duex ribbon cable and try again, same results
- I try three different usb cables, with and without a USB hub, (no cable came with my board), same results. BL touch now blinks red.
- I read this page https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/What_to_do_if_your_Duet_won't_respond and it seemed to be telling me to erase the board.
- I follow the erase procedures: jump the pin, plug in USB, un-jump the pin, un-plug the USB.
- Board now has 4 lights: DIAG is now on steady.
- I try erase procedure a few times, I try with and without SD card, I try reset button. no change - doesn't show up in windows 10 and can't connect with bossa, no ports visible in device manager.
What now?

would suggest the board did have a firmware, and now doesn't. guessing faulty micro usb or processor.
if you can get some close up and focused pictures of the solder joints on those I think it might help the Duet people evaluate a replacement as it clearly seems to be malfunctioning. (asuming the three usb cables are not charging only cables?)

I had to erase my board because I flashed the wrong firmware. You need to download the firmware and use Bossa (terminal) to reload the firmware. As far as the usb thing, did you load the drivers? The drivers make the usb port look like a com port.
-
Should show up as a other or unkown device if it was a driver issue, as well as making the connections sounds and making device manager scan for changes, so don't think its a driver issue based on OPs description.

The SD card came with files on it. Drivers, I assume.
I followed the instructions which say that Windows will detect the board, then you load the drivers onto the new detected device. None of that worked so I manually installed the drivers anyhow - it was futile.

Now that all 4 lights are on and the board doesn't have firmware...
I've been running through some of the procedures on this page: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware#Section_Usual_procedure
The instructions under Fallback Procedure #3 basically tell you that if windows can't detect the card, try different USB ports and cables. Everything relies on it being detected.
So naturally, nothing I try has any effect.

Based on the description, its either a weak link somewhere in the chain of USB connectivity or a faulty CPU, given it seemed to have a firmware initially I'd focus on USB for now.

Update - you might all like to know - in desperation I unplugged the card from the printer and tried that way - no change. So I hunted around for another cable and got lucky, found an old one in a storage box full of computer parts.
The 4th cable did it. It's all working now. I appreciate everyone's input.

Sometimes it seems like USB cables are weekly consumables. Sigh.

@Co3get Glad to see you got it working. while pondering your situation I remembered that some cables are just for charging thus no data flow.
