Power Wiring

Hi,
So I’m very new to the wiring side of 3D printing. I just received the duet 2 Ethernet board and I am currently setting everything up. The power supply I was using for my other board was a regular laptop charger, a DC 19.5V and I don’t have the recommended Mean well power supply. So I cut into the the laptop charger and there’s 3 wires, the live, neutral and ground - but I don’t need the neutral - so would it be okay if I wrapped it up in insulation tape?
I know this is a very basic question, but I’m terrified of blowing the board!
Thanks!

What color are the wires you are talking about?
They sound like the high voltage AC input wires - not the low voltage DC output wires.
Posting a picture would be good.

Hey Frederick,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I’ve attached a photo below or the wires, and I’ve also zoomed in where it says an output of 19.5V - if I’m completely wrong on this, let me know!
-
that is only 45 Watt.
that is not enough power to run a hotend and stepper motors.
-
As mentioned that is not enough power for a working printer.
It could be used to experiment with the board on your workbench.
Those wires are coming out of the top end of the unit in the photo?
You can get suitable Meanwell on Amazon for under $50 - usually.

Okay no problem, so I’m unfortunately I’m on a time schedule - but I’ll place an order for a mean well power supply - but in the meantime, I was previously using a different laptop charger for my original Ardunio circuit board, but because it’s my laptop charger as well - I’m less inclined to use that.
I also have this power supply
Would either of these work?

the top one is 120w this will work only if you do not have a heated bed.
the bottom one is 36W, so even less.

We never seem to have enough time to do it right the first time, yet somehow manage to find the time to do it right the second time.
