Just want to add one more Z stepper, for a total of 3.

So..... I was wondering?...
For the last 3 RailCore I built, I bought the Duex 5, basically just to plug in 1 more stepper. I noticed Filastruder has a $34 expansion board. It has extra stepper ports, but I do not know if it has drivers. (the chips don't look the same) Can I use this to add a single stepper, or do I have to shell out $100 for another duex?
I bought a $54 Bigtree GTR1.0, which is an amazing 6 driver 32 bit board, But If I'm going to do it, I'd rather like to use this extra Duet2 WiFi I have laying around. It's been a winning formula, and I see no reason to be a cheap ass, However a Duex is also total overkill for my current needs. Is this expansion board going to fit the bill?
Thanks All!

@Steve-Lynch What about using the Duex2 instead of the Duex5 ?

$79 vs. $34. I mean if I have to buy one, I will, I just wanted to see if the simple expansion board would work. I don't need any additional fans, or sensors.. just one more little stepper!

add an external stepper via the main header
-
@Steve-Lynch I'm not 100% but fairly sure that the expansion board is for using external drivers so it doesn't have any of its own. If that's correct, then you have to factor in the cost of a driver as well.

Hmmm. That's not scary, if that's the case! I have 3 drawers of my parts bin stocked with TMC 2208, 2209, and 2130 drivers for all of my farm printers. I have a buddy in China, and he hits the electronics marketplace frequently, so he usually snags me a couple sets of steppers, and drivers, as well as a few MK52 heat beds. They're like 1/3 the price of even alibaba. I guess I need to study the header diagram... I might just try it for kicks. laser cut a little driver holder, and wire it up with Duponts to the header. If it doesn't work out? Duex 2 it is! Thanks guys!

@Steve-Lynch Found some more info on the expansion header https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_Expansion_Breakout_Board

should work provided the driver can work with 3.3v signals even if it might needs 5v supply. (if you want to use smart drivers it needs to be the same tmc2660 as is on the wifi and the spi1 signals are 5v already)

@dc42 No sir, thank you.... I have no problem with ordering a Duex, but they've been backordered at filastruder, and I just want to get this done. If I can cobble it together in the meantime, great! However, I also do not want to cook a perfectly good duet by "tinkering"....

DueX boards are currently being manufactured, so they should be available again soon.
