@Corexy congrats and happy birthday! An extra 200 mm in Z for 20 bucks or so, sounds like a no brainer if you can physically accommodate that height. Ref the linear guides, you only need 2 - maybe 3 depending on how they are arranged. The more you have, the more difficult it is to get them all aligned (although Vslot and wheels are a little more forgiving in this respect).
Cheers Ian,
Not literally my birthday, I just managed to accumulate the funds a little earlier. This might mean that I can get that Bondtech BMG I need for this project as a pressy....
That's how I'm thinking...they've got 4 vslot z rails and 3 leadscrews. I'm of the mind to make it a vslot rail with each leadscrew, possibly with the delrin backlash nut mounted mounted on the actual roller carriage plate.
I'm also considering a water jet cut all floor to mount the bearings/pulleys for belt driven z axis screws/pulleys. IF I don't go with a Digitaldentist style reduction gear belt drive for the Z.
But I won't get ahead of myself, as Ratrig seems to have gotten by just fine without my advice/assistance/opinions so far. I'll have a look at the thing first and take it from there.
As for accommodating this thing, I think it's own small table or roller trolley will be the way to go. It certainly won't fit on the workbench.
Cheers all.
**Order placed. Let's see how they go.

@Corexy Yeah, I guessed that it was either a "metaphorical birthday", or an "official birthday" like the queen has.

Ha ha!
All my birthdays are metaphorical in a way, and it's hard to be happy on a day when you've just added another number to 5__.
I'm tipping the Queen gets more cards and a nicer cake too!
-
@Corexy nah, 50 something is nothing. I find it scary that in 3 more years, I'll be adding numbers to 7. I'm planning on hitting 100 - then the queen (or king) will be sending me a card.

That's one way to get her attention I guess?

Just in time for the Duet 8.

Little update...
It's been almost 3 weeks since placing the order, not dispatched yet.
I must say the communication has slowed/stopped (they answered a couple of technical questions since, but 2 emails asking about dispatch have been ignored so far) since payment was made.
I have no doubt it'll come, but I'm tipping there's a sales department that makes promises (like 1-2 weeks lead time) and signs them up, then flicks the order and his promises across to the production department. Not the first time I've seen that...
It doesn't bother me too badly as it's a long term project, but if it were to stretch out to 6 weeks I'll go for a refund. Hope it doesn't come to that.
-
@Corexy Hang on in there. It'll come eventually. Looking back through this thread, I mentioned on 24th Feb that other people had said delivery was a pain time wise, but otherwise fine. Covid my be causing problems too. But I agree, it would be good if they kept you updated.
-
Orders sometimes take a lot of time. Ratrig employees are active on the Facebook page (sorry), so they're not gone dark.
-
I'm certainly not worried about getting ripped off or anything like that. I don't even mind waiting a month or so. And yes, I did note it was a regular occurrence with them.
I guess in my opinion, saying a week or two then just stopping replying after the order is taken is just a little bit of a bad look. I actually asked him specifically about lead time and delays with other orders when he rang, and he said they'd had delays in the past but it would ship in about a week. I said 2 weeks lead time would be fine.
I am a particularly grumpy hater of FB and Google (I'm a parent of teenagers), so you will NEVER see me on there.
It's certainly not as bad as a fake tracking number from Banggood or Aliexpress, which never ever works lol.
-
So in the interests of honesty and transparency,
A nice young lady from Ratrig contacted me just now, and explained that they had local holidays and a huge backlog of emails, and that my order was shipping today.
I'm not fussed about how long it takes, as long as they communicate it, so as far as I'm concerned my experience is still all good.
I am keen to see this kit!
-
@Corexy That was nice of them - although no less than one should expect.
-
Hey! The tracking number works!
That's the first big plus over buying from China...I swear they just close their eyes and tap randomly at the keyboard when they enter a tracking number over there.

That's not my experience with Aliexpress purchases.

That's funny....they've been the absolute WORST for me, most times. Banggood is about 50/50 in my experience.
I guess it's all on the experience you have personally. Could also be about what part of the world you're in too.
-
@Corexy, my experience is that the tracking numbers Aliexpress vendors provide eventually progress through the shipping stages such that they are real numbers.
-
@zapta I bought something that never turned up. I was told it had been delivered. The tracking number never worked. I asked the vendor to contact the courier and get them to say the address of where it had been delivered and who signed for it. Eventually, they admitted that something had gone wrong with the system and the courier company had wrongfully said it had been delivered. After a long drawn out battle, I eventually got a refund.

To be honest mate, it's not important enough to me to go back and forth about, other than to say that's been my experience. Including a mother board I've been waiting for for over 2.5 months now.
I'm not saying I won't ever use them, but I am saying their tracking numbers have only ever been crap for me so far.
I should have known that comment would start a debate on the matter. Let's just get it back on track, including me as well.
** Moving quickly too... gone from Portugal to Spain and now Germany in the first 24-36 hours.

Germany in the first 24-36 hours.
Just rely on DHL to sit on the package for a week (-:
-
Oh think yourself lucky, I can pay for Express (from almost any courier) and regularly see parcels arrive from anywhere in Europe to here in Cyprus in less than 12hrs, only to magically disappear and take anything up to 10 days to travel the last 50km from the ONLY inbound parcel hub the whole island has to me.
And if you complain the standard line is rolled out "ah this is Cyprus my friend, we do things our own way"Or another good one is I pay for DHL express and once it arrives here in Cyprus sometimes (most of the time) they hand it over to their "local delivery partner" which just so happens to be Cyprus Post Office, and in Cyprus "postal service" is a bit of misnomer as we dont have postmen who physically deliver the packages to your home, one of two things happen, if its tracked they send you a SMS telling you to go to the post office and collect.
If its un-tracked some old guy on a scooter drops a ticket in your mail box, at no set time of the day or set day of the week (the mail box must be out on the street) telling you to go and collect the item from the post office (you cant have a letter box in the door as they wont get off the scooter to put anything through a letter box if they cant reach it while still sitting on the scooter you dont get the ticket)
